I am new to teaching AP U.S. History (APUSH), Academic Decathlon, Academic Pentathlon (8th grade team) and a veteran 7th & 10th grade World History teacher. With Distance Learning I'm concentrating on creative and exciting lessons and how to keep my students motivated. I'm still learning how to teach this way and I'm sure students are too. Many are struggling with internet connection, scheduling all Zoom Meetings, and how to complete and upload assignments for each teacher. Some are struggling with having basic school supplies such as paper, colored pencils, and erasers. Others are struggling emotionally and socially with quarantine. They miss their friends and miss the one-on-one attention from teachers when they struggle. Online classes are becoming monotonous and feel never-ending.
With this in mind, I want to support my students with basic classroom supplies so that they and their families need never worry about supplies during this trying time.
This includes allowing my enthusiastic students access to any and all supplies that will help them succeed in my class, pass the AP U.S. History Exam, and to do well in the Academic Pentathlon Competitions.
My students and I need essential supplies to better access classroom resources such as motivational postcards, colored pencil, and journals for struggling students. I want to write handwritten postcards to students on their birthdays, when they drop off on their work, or when they are doing a good job. Many students also don't have something as simple as colored pencils to do drawings for my history class, much less for their art class. The journals are for the few students I have who are struggling emotional with social distancing and I feel a specialized child journal could really help.
Thank you in advance for your help with this project.
The gift of these supplies will have a huge impact on my students' ability and motivation to do complete their assignments. My students need to feel that they have all the supplies they need without having to worry about buying them all. Thank you for helping them!
