The students are so excited and filled with anxiety when they sit in the meeting area waiting for our greetings and what to expect for the day's activities. I am so excited to tell them something new. They look at me smiling and I can see their brains ticking; they can hardly wait to hear what is coming.
My students are from a diverse ethnic background.
Most of them are already five years old and my class has more boys than girls. They are a very energetic bunch and very eager to learn new things. They are very excited when we do math on the smart board. I am very excited when I teach them something new and they begin to understand the concepts. They love it when I high five them and say "you got it".
A typical day in my classroom starts in our meeting area. Our flow of the day starts at 8:20 am when the students start to arrive. After they put their belongings away, we meet in the meeting area where we go over our flow of the day. Between 9:05 and 10:20, we cover our reader's and writer's workshops. We break for lunch at 10:25 am.
After lunch, we do word work at 11:25, math at 12:05, read aloud, art, and social studies or science. Our days are very busy as the students do book shopping, or go to the library. My Favorite quote is "You can do anything if you put your mind to it".
My Project
Our literacy center needs a little boost. A new reading pillow will help to make it more interesting. Due to lack of space, our literacy center is also used as a reading center. The students use the center alternately, and they have a lot of fun.
When they are tired from sitting in the meeting area, we oftentimes take a break and do some aerobics. They enjoy listening to the directives which is very beneficial as they do the exercise routines.
We have very little space to store the materials we use when we do Reader's and Writer's workshop and Foundations learning activities. The Learn and Store Chart Stand will be a very essential tool when we do these meeting area activities.
The donations of these items will greatly enhance the learning of my students.
Having the right tools does make the teaching and learning experience more interesting and a better flow to the lessons. The students are eager to learn, and I want to be able to help them reach their highest potentials.
By the end of the school year, the students are expected to be reading at the "F" level. Our biggest challenge is that we do not have enough resources such as leveled books.
