Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Functional Living Skills class is made up of 9 incredibly promising and talented 1st-5th grade girls and boys. We focus on achieving mastery in a variety of areas like academics, self-help skills and communication.
These kids don't know how their progress and achievements have been an inspiration to us!
Our focus is their success.
There are many items we could use to better fulfill our needs and enhance the learning experience of these extraordinary students. We have a real need for a few pieces of technology to better utilize some of the equipment available to us. And we also need classroom furniture, like flexible seating.
My Project
The materials we need right now aren't big, flashy items like tablets or robotics kits, but the basic things that keep our class running smoothly from day to day. Lamination sleeves, self adhesive dots, card stock, and toner cartridges are so important because they are the materials I use to make communication books for non-verbal students. The pencil sharpener increases my students' level of independence because some lack the ability to use a manual sharpener. The label maker tape allows my students to see the names of the objects they use on a daily basis, aiding in the development of their functional literacy skills.
