With many new students coming in from Puerto Rico. My students need extra help and support with school supplies and snacks. The students at my school come from a working class neighborhood that is very well integrated. They are every color of the rainbow and come from multiple backgrounds. One thing that they have in common is that many of their families are working multiple jobs and having trouble making ends meet.
Teachers, counselors, and other staff members frequently purchase basic need items for students who are not able to receive them from their families.
This school uses a program of catching students doing the right thing. There is an ongoing conversation about "being a bucket filler" by doing good things. They receive incentive "bucks" for good behavior and deeds.
My Project
With the cold and flu season going around, my students need tissues for their little runny noses. At the end of the day I would like to be able to go around and clean the class up with Lysol wipes and clean off our beanbag chairs with the Lysol spray. This will help reduce the spread of germs and hopefully students will be coming to school more often since there won’t be as much germs after cleaning. A lot of students have been out because they have the flu. With the new supplies,I’m hoping that students are able to come to school more often rather then being out sick.
Supplies to make the day go by smoothly.
You always have that one student who needs a pencil and needs to be sharpened. Therefore we need pencils and sharpeners. That way the students will be ready to learn.
Sometimes my students are hungry. So, if we have snacks like crackers and chips available in the classroom students will be able to eat and work. No student wants to come to be hungry at school. The snacks will help improve performance because the students bellies will be full.
