Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach reading to many different classes of brilliant girls in New York City. Many of my students are English language learners and children with special needs. Most qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
All of my students are creative, thoughtful, and eager learners, and much of their knowledge this year has been expressed through their literacy and play.
It has been so exciting to see them fully engaged each day as they learn through collaboration and play with their peers.
I teach 27 bright and beautiful second graders in a high-needs area of New York City. My students and I have been working intensively to get to grade level proficiency in reading. We set realistic reading goals and are working to make at least one year's growth. They have a goal-setting mindset.
My Project
Who stayed on green today? Great job! Students who do the right thing day after day should be rewarded by going to the treasure box.
My eager second graders enjoy the slightest praise, trinkets, and rewards.
I am requesting your help in developing a student reward center in my classroom. Small rewards or prizes bring such excitement to the eyes of my students. My students deserve to be rewarded for working hard, and I would like to provide them with opportunities.
I'm requesting support with student incentives, such as candy used to foster positive behavior. Making good choices and being kind to one another is paramount in my classroom. This will help my students learn that they can earn the things they want by doing what they are suppose to do. Students will self reflect and ask themselves "Did I use my accountable talk stems, or did I do my best today?" Those who remain on green will continue to do the right thing knowing they will be rewarded. This will create personal challenges for those who make mistakes to create change and foster new behaviors. The ultimate goal for the classroom is to follow classroom rules. The #1 rule is to do their best and show it.
I am also requesting supplies like markers and an incentive chart with chart stickers. The students will use the markers for various literacy projects and we use the chart and stickers to track daily homework. Thank you for supporting my students.
