Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are faced with challenges each day; many that would be difficult for an adult to deal with, let alone a five-year-old. At a low-income turnaround school, these children spend the first six weeks of kindergarten closing the gaps from preschool. The rest of the school year ties in crucial preschool concepts with those concepts taught in kindergarten to prepare for the following twelve years of schooling they will receive.
In my dual language classroom, mis amores come to school every day excited to learn something new and excited to explore.
Through hands-on learning, our classroom community helps this exploration to happen and to change their young lives.
My Project
On a daily basis, we use many different supplies in our classroom to complete classwork, and practice with our hands-on learning. Basic classroom supplies come few and far between at school. By having pens, cars, Velcro, tape, and more, the children will be able to complete their daily learning tasks.We are fortunate enough to be playing with a new curriculum based on play.
Through learning in play centers, the children are able to develop deeper and more meaningful relationships and understand the world around them.
In teaching, I look forward to reading more about this curriculum and building a deeper understanding myself in order to provide what's best for my students.
