Our previously submitted mural project is fully funded. The kind benefactor generously encouraged me to submit the cost of additional materials that were not included in the original request. With great appreciation, I submit this addendum to the original proposal: The surface my highschool students will be working on is a rough brick wall. Our mural would benefit from the application of smoothing matte gel to the brick before priming. Gesso would be a more compatible primer than what was originally planned. Gloss medium and gloss soluvar would serve as a protective coat to the final painting. Many of my younger talented in visual art students are also bursting at the seams with stories of their Katrina experiences. Some of the experiences have been positive (new friends, new homes, kindnesses of strangers) and some of course, have been very difficult for them. As an art teacher, I find myself in a unique position to be of service to these children. They are in a position to record for posterity a significant historical event in their country. With your generous assistance, I will be able to provide the children with journals, paint and canvas to provide a venue for the accounting of and expression of feelings regarding their experiences . For those more sculpturally inclined students, I would also like to request clay. To help the children develop their ideas more fully, I would also like to make sketchbook/journals ,drawing and painting materials available to them. I believe it is important for the children to make any visual records of their experiences while they are still fresh in their minds.
