Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am super excited that I am teaching the full day, four-year-old, preschool class this year in a high poverty public school. People sometimes have the perception that we are well-funded because of our location, which couldn't be further from the truth! My students are mostly minority and ESL students. They are a very active, affectionate, and funny bunch of kiddos.
My students want to be challenged and are very curious and excited when new items and curriculum are added to the classroom.
I have been teaching for 23 years, and I want my students to want to come to school every day. I want materials that will challenge them, as well as provide fun experiences for them on a daily basis. This is my main focus for them as their teacher.
My Project
Teaching Preschool remotely has been quite a challenge this year so far! My students and families are dedicated to the process and have been showing up every day for school. I never thought that I would be able to connect to 4 year olds through a computer screen, but somehow, we are making it work. My parents are asking for more resources that are paper/pencil to supplement the learning at home and to reduce screen time. It is not always easy to find these kind of resources for pre-k learners.
I want to provide a variety of resources, in my students home languages, that are interesting to them as well as educational.
I am asking for 3 $100 gift cards to a website I frequently use called teacherspayteachers. What it provides is resources, made by teachers, in all grade levels and many languages. For example, I teach a Gingerbread man study every year. This site has age appropriate activities for reading, math, science, social studies and the arts that I can use in my lessons.
Although the site does provide some free resources, the paid ones give you full access to the content. I would use these to supplement my lessons and provide additional resources to my families and students. Thanks for taking the time to read my proposal and for valuing Early Childhood Education!
