Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are the M.O. Mountain Lions and ready to ROAR! We are also PROUD to be the Ojai Valley's ONLY Green Ribbon School!
Our elementary school is a Title I school and many of my students are English Language Learners who come to school with little to no academic experience and many of my students hear only their native language at home and English only when they are at school.
Language skills can be acquired and improved with as much exposure to the English language as possible. My students are eager to learn and come to school daily with a smile on their faces!
My Project
Literacy centers are an essential part of an effective reading program for Kindergarten. Effective literacy stations provide multisensory and differentiated activities to meet the diversity of student interests, needs, and various academic levels.
A key component of literacy centers is a listening station where students can independently follow along a text while listening to a fluent reader read a story.
A listening station can effectively improve comprehension, fluency, and provide English Language Learners with exposure to English and academic language.
A listening station will also provide a teacher with the opportunity to meet with small groups for direct instruction while students work independently through the literacy centers.
