Superior Teaching Reached Every Day Through Creative Hands
My students need music instruments (rhythm sticks), art supplies (oil pastels), and dramatic play material (puppets), to have an innovative, hands-on learning experience.
We exercise to wake up our brains! I want to "stretch my students' learning opportunities" and provide them with an innovative learning experience, through Arts Integration. Arts Integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form.
I teach 12 Kindergarten students and 13 First Graders in a Title I school.
I have 25 students in my classroom. My Kindergarten students are above average and work on a first grade level. These students love to move and be actively engaged in learning. They are very creative and do very well with hands-on learning. Through the Arts Integration approach, my students will engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject and meets evolving objectives in both. It also provides multiple ways for students to make sense of what they learn (construct understanding) and make their learning visible (demonstrate understanding). When students engage in the creative process, they produce original work. They are able to communicate their ideas, insights, points of view and feelings.
My Project
I want to provide multiple ways for my students to engage in the creative process. Providing a variety of musical instruments will enhance the development of auditory skills, fine motor skills, and a sense of rhythm. It will also allow my students a creative way to retell a reading story or create a math problem. Having creative art supplies such as pastels available will provide my students with opportunities for creativity, uniqueness and self-expression. A dramatic play center including puppets will empower my students and promote creativity and innovation. Students will be able to use classic books as a model to create their own stories.
These donations will allow me to build a positive classroom environment where students can explore and are encouraged and supported to take risks.
"STRETCH" (Superior Teaching Reached Everyday Through Creative Hands) funding will provide my students with active hands-on learning with authentic problems for them to solve in divergent ways. It will also provide multiple ways for my students to make sense of what they learn and make their learning visible.
