My students need materials to help them reach their goals. As a Speech Language therapist, the school does not provide me with supplies. I spend a lot of free time creating materials to use in therapy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I provide Speech-Language Therapy to Elementary students attending public school in the Bronx, NY. I work with students in Special Education with a variety of disorders including Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, language disorders, articulation and fluency disorders.
Most of the students who attend my school live in poverty and receive free breakfast and lunch at school.
Many students in the school are English Language Learners and their parents often do not speak English. Many students come to school unprepared and without basic supplies.
My students are very sweet and want to learn. They are motivated by materials they can touch and manipulate. Many of them learn best through multi-sensory teaching; using visual, auditory and kinesthetic input to learn.
My Project
As a speech therapist, I work with students in small groups outside of the classroom. Each student is working toward specific speech and language goals. I currently have 47 students on my caseload and use a wide variety of tools and materials in therapy.
My laminator needs a break!
The school does not supply therapists with any teaching materials. Therefore, much of my free time is spent creating fun and engaging materials to use in therapy.
I have chosen several activities from Lakeshore Learning that will help my students reach their speech and language goals. My students need to work on language skills including phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, syntax, sentence creation auditory and listening comprehension.
