My students need to learn how to tie their shoes. This is an essential skill that can keep them safe throughout the day.

My Students

Our students come from a combination of suburban and rural areas. We have around 700 students at our school. A good number of our students are from lower income families. Some of the students do not get the help at home they need just to learn everyday basics and skills.

The Kindergarten and first grade students are very active and are always excited to come to class and participate.

They enjoy any activity we do in class and like to try new things.

My Project

Teachers spend quite a bit of time tying shoes throughout the school day. This is especially true in Kindergarten and first grade classrooms.

I spend quite a few minutes at the beginning of my Physical Education classes making sure shoes are tied to help keep the students safe while moving during class.

I believe that teaching students how to tie their own shoes is an essential skill that can keep them safe all day and not just in my classroom. The classroom teachers do not always have time to work on this skill, so I want to start teaching the students how to tie.

Students love superheroes and would like to be able to tie their shoes just like a superhero. I want to take this approach to make learning this skill more fun.
