Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from predominantly low income households. A majority of my students have just arrived to the United States from other countries, mostly South America. Unfortunately, they don't have the means to provide their children with classroom materials and many outdoor experiences. Therefore, having these materials will provide them with age appropriate equipment that will give them the opportunity to learn through play.
I am excited to be given this opportunity to teach 1st grade again at my school with an amazing group of kids and families.
As I begin my second year working with first grade students, I have had a year to see what tools could enhance my students' learning needs.
By having these materials available in our classroom, it opens a whole new world of learning to these students that they have never experienced before. Therefore, enhancing their learning on a daily basis.
My Project
Our students have an empty field where they get to participate in recess and physical education. There is nothing but open grass there and nothing for the students to play with. If our class can get the playground balls, the gross motor hoops, the beanbags and rainbow cones, it will provide for many ways of exercising, and initiating creative play.
Our room has space for flexible seating.
By adding the Wobble Chairs, it give the students a sense of pride and excitement of learning in a fun environment.
When the students are not sitting on the Wobble Chairs but in our other flexible locations, having the clipboards with come in handy.
With a new color printer, student will also be encouraged to create projects on their own to print and display in our classroom. Our classroom is their second home, so it's important to make it feel their own.
