Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is made up of 20 happy, little kindergarteners. They come from less fortunate families and need all the help they can get. They would be very grateful for these donations, so they can learn letters and numbers and how to be the best they can be. The alphabet bean bags will help them with Kinesthetic learning, to use their whole body to get to know the capital and lowercase letters by jumping and calling out the letters with a partner. The Alphabet Soup cans will help demonstrate and sort the beginning sounds for pictures. I will use the items in each can when introducing the letters, to help students recognize familiar life things that start with the letter of the day.
I have noticed students need different opportunities to experience or interact with the alphabet, and sensory bins are a great opportunity.
The students will get to use the galvanized tubs as a sensory bin. The bins will be a sturdy place to sort through different sensory items to find letters and numbers to identify and sort.
Students need to feel comfortable and at "home" in their classroom. They feel like they have their own space especially when their space is labeled with a new name plate throughout the year. Also, in Kindergarten, we start out with just their first names and add last names midway through the year. So, the name plates will help students to learn their first/last names and feel like they have a place.
My classroom is made up of many beautiful shades of skin, and I want the children to feel like they see themselves when they are coloring. I am excited to be able to give my kiddoes some crayons that they can use to show their own beautiful shade of skin.
