Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My super students come to school excited and eager to learn. My students will work this year to become independent self-starters who are leaders both in and out of the classroom.
Our first graders are at the perfect age for learning to express themselves creatively, while learning to take care of their community through organization and self-management.
Many of my students do, however, come from homes that are low on the socioeconomic scale. Many do not come with supplies, or have little support at home. The teachers and staff show real love and genuine care for their students and do everything that they can to help the students succeed.
My Project
All children deserve to feel the joy of growing a garden, to carefully watch the different stages of plant growth, and to eat and enjoy the 'fruit of their labor'.
My students have a high desire to learn, and are fascinated by the world around them; the students are thriving with the few hands-on experiences that I can currently provide, and I want to provide more!
I am requesting an indoor hydroponic garden so that my class will be able to grow plants of their choosing in a stable and controlled environment all-year round. With these seed pods we will be able to observe different plant growth, and we will be able to integrate this kit into Science, Math, and even into Writing.
My dream is to be able to create a classroom community where the students enjoy learning about both abstract and concrete topics, and I want to create more varied learning opportunities, specifically with science. While our garden will be a specific focus during our units on living things and plants, my goal is to integrate having the chance to tend and be responsible for this indoor garden throughout the year as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read our class request, we appreciate you!
