I teach in an Exceptional Education Classroom. I work with students who have a variety of learning, sensory, and social-emotional needs.
My students have difficulty processing everyday noises which can cause my students to be in pain.
My students also have difficulty regulating their emotions. I have been in the classroom for over six years, and have seen a decrease in the ability to process sensory stimuli. I not only work with students in my room, but also provide attention to students in classrooms all over our school.
My Project
This is the second round of materials to be ordered for a sensory room for our school. We have been working hard over the summer to make our room the perfect hideaway for students with sensory needs. The alternative seating options-the bean bag chair, giant comfy pillow, LED light cube, and soft seats that we are ordering will allow students to have comfortable seating in their hideaway. These items will promote core strength, allow for increased oxygen and blood flow. The swing stand will house the rope hammock swing or the pod swing seat is the perfect way to increase balance and coordination while giving them spatial awareness.
Your donation will purchase, these simple sensory items that will help students regulate their emotions and lead to a more successful school year.
The kinetic sand and therapy putty will increase grip strength which will lead to improved handwriting. The ocean animals, jungle animals, and frogs will be used with water beads in a sensory bin to explore a sense of touch. The Teepee will give the students a safe place to get ready for the day or to calm their emotions when they are having a tough day. The sensory pack includes 21 different fidgets that gives us several options to give a student the perfect tool.
I have seen how sensory items can regulate a students emotions and can change the entire school experience. All students deserve to have the best school experience possible.
