This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Being a child can be tough. Being a child growing up with absentee parents and little money can be excruciating. As a teacher, we have no control over what happens to our children when they leave us. School should be a place of fun and exploration in a safe space!
My students are first graders from inner-city single-parent homes.
They do not come to school with the common skills you would expect. They have little or no prior knowledge of things you and I would take for granted.
I want my classroom to be exciting and help catch students up on experiences I would provide for my own children.
My Project
Next year my partner and I are going to try a pilot program teaching all the first graders in our school together.
We will need to be ultra organized in order to be successful.
Fortunately our school offers laptops to each student. However, first graders and notorious for losing their supplies! We need individual storage containers to keep each child's earbuds and passwords secure.
These baby food storage containers are perfect! They are in different colors to help the students recognize their own materials.
The larger bins are so we can keep center materials separate as well. We will be teaching all subjects so organization will be key.
Please consider helping us with our new adventure!
