This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a fifth grade teacher in an urban, K-5, public school in New Bedford, Ma. The majority of my school's students come from low-income families and speak English as their second language. Ninety-nine percent of students qualify for free or reduced price lunch and ninety percent of students live in public housing. These students face difficult obstacles both inside and outside the classroom, but continue to amaze me with their unwavering determination to learn!

Despite the challenges they face, my students are always eager to get to school everyday and learn something new!

My goal is to facilitate a safe, warm and collaborative learning environment for the exploration of knowledge and self. With your help, we can acquire the tools necessary to reach this goal!

My Project

These chair pockets will be used by all students to store their belongings while they sit at their new student tables. Currently, students will be working on flat surfaces that do not contain a storage unit. Seat covers with organizational pockets are the best solution to keep their materials neat and close by!

My students will be able to keep all their learning tools neat and organized, while all in a safe and convenient place!

Each chair pocket provides a student with several structured spaces for their books and writing tools, as well as aid all students in strengthening their organizational skills through their neat and purposeful design.
