As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they are an amazing, vibrant group of students who are ready to learn and who deserve the very best.
We are a high-performing, Title I elementary school in Nevada.
Many of my students come to kindergarten without prior access to preschool. Our ultimate goal is to have our students reading, writing, adding, and subtracting by the time they leave kindergarten. We accomplish this through various hands-on activities that are engaging, interactive, and fun.
My Project
My students need a storage unit to help with storing and organizing our literacy classroom centers. Having a space and place for all our learning materials makes our classroom a more functional and efficient place to learn and grow. This storage unit is the perfect height for my students to reach, helping them foster independence. The translucent trays will allow students to see the contents inside each tray enabling them to pick the literacy center needed.
As a kindergarten teacher I not only teach my kids academics but also organizational skills to help them be successful life long learners.
When a classroom is organized, the less stressful it will feel. Teaching children to be organized automatically decreases classroom clutter and the amount of time spent on non-learning activities. Organized students are less stressed, more ready to learn, and won't have to spend time and energy looking for missing items. This storage unit will give my students the opportunity to have needed centers at their fingertips and help them keep our classroom organized!
