My amazing students live in a rural area. More than half live below the poverty line. Within this group are several students who are experiencing homelessness. The homelessness is due to job loss, poverty, and sometimes the opioid crisis that our community is suffering from. My classroom is an inclusion class. This means that I teach students with disabilities along with their typically developing peers.
I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
Despite their obstacles due to poverty, homelessness, and learning disabilities, my students have great attitudes. They are eager to learn. I want to fill their space with the tools that help them to have the same opportunities as children in more prominent areas. My students deserve every advantage. They are amazing.
My Project
STEAM and other 21st Century Learning activities require a lot of expensive materials. My students deserve to participate in these research based strategies despite the fact that their families may not be in a position to supply the resources.
Education is the most powerful tool for changing the world.
I will use the tools you provide to engage my students in 21st Century STEAM activities. The colored chart tablet and Post it tablet will be used for both anchor charts and student created activities that encourage collaboration. The flair pens will be used to create these charts. The card stock and colored papers will be used by the students to create projects. These are materials that cost more than my students can afford. The Picasso Tiles will be used directly by students to build during STEAM activities. The glasses, finger lights, and suction cup balls will be used for reading activities in my classroom. They will be reused over and over again. Finally, Gigantic ten frame set will be used to help my students with basic math skills.
Students that experience poverty and or homelessness deserve materials, too. When parents are struggling to house and feed their children, school supplies often become considered luxuries. Please help me help my students.
