My Students

Learning to love books takes reading a lot of different books!

My students attend an inner city school in western Washington.

We have a high volume of low-income families and a high number of diversity within our community and our school. My students come primarily from single parent households so I try to buy all the supplies my students will need so their parents don't have to. However I have been unable to update our library and it is desperately needing some attention.

My Project

Reading stories that are relevant to the curriculum and re-reading stories they already know help students increase their comprehension and fluency when reading. And when children are able to understand what they read they enjoy it more. I want to foster my student's love of reading by providing them new fresh books to read.

My students come from very low income households and do not get the resources most people take for granted.

The only time many of them get to hold a book is while they are at school. I feel it is my duty to do what it takes to provide adequate materials for them.
