Our students are inquisitive and love to wonder about the world. In our second-grade classrooms, our own love and excitement to teach as teachers show in our students' drive to learn. We explore our learning through the inquiry process and focus on hands-on activities and connections made through our lessons. Our goal is to make sure every child experiences enriching activities that leave lasting impressions. Our students come from very diverse backgrounds. This includes children identified academically and emotionally gifted as well as students with a wide spectrum of special needs. Our school is an IBO World School which is part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). Our goal across all grade levels is to provide students an approach of teaching and learning that engages students actively while encouraging them to think critically and take action in an interest they are passionate about. The greatest reward in teaching is watching a child's excitement build, their drive to learn, and their passion to make a difference in the world.
My Project
Learning about different life cycles is an exciting part of learning about the world around us. Students are fascinated by how animals and plants grow and develop.
Seeing this happen first hand creates wonder and excitement, as well as creating lasting memories and the love to learn and explore.
In this project, students will learn about three different life cycles in the insect world and compare and contrast those different life cycles. Learning about the Painted Lady Butterfly, the Amazing Ladybug, and the Praying Mantis allows students to experience these life cycles up close and personal. This project also develops a deep love and respect for many of our insects and their vital roles in the environment.
