This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a self-contained, multi-subject, fifth grade teacher at a designated low-income elementary school. The student population is minority-based with a high concentration of English Language Learners.
My students are in need of electric instruments that can be of assistance to their musical development and advancement of their current string instrument knowledge.
By promoting the use of instruments that students are interested in and excited to play, they will become more invested and engaged in the learning process. Many of my students are underprivileged and come from single parent, foster, migrant, and military families. They do not have access to private lessons or their own instruments, so they must rely on the public school system for all of their musical needs. Sadly this system continues to deprive the music department of much needed funding, which in turn deprives the students of access and exposure to the art of instrumental music.
My Project
My students are at the point in their lives where music is becoming part of their influence and identity. Many of these children inspire to be like these musically talented performers because they feel like they can relate to them through their music. My students would be thrilled to have the opportunity to learn how to play an electric bass guitar. By providing access to these types of instruments students would be able to advance their musical knowledge and abilities. These instruments would inspire student success, and develop confidence and self-worth. My goal is to excite my student's musical inquiry by starting a rock and roll instrumental collection, starting with this beginners four string instrument. By the end of the year I hope to have acquired the needed instruments to present a rock inspired band performance at our school's talent show.
Not all students are academically gifted, but some are musically gifted and don't know it because they haven't had the opportunity to discover it due to lack of access and appropriate instruction.
