My students need these strong texts to assist them in becoming the best friends they can be, to both themselves and others. This will lead to a more kind and compassionate classroom climate.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Although not immediately obvious, I have some special things in common with my students. Like most of them, my relatives are proud immigrants. I am privileged to teach in the neighborhood my family resided in for twenty years. This common background helps me to connect with my students and allows them to visualize their future. Another interest my students and I share is the love of reading.
Most of my super seconds are from low-income households; many are English Language Learners.
They are interested and informed; they are intelligent and inquisitive. Many students are struggling with social skills, due to matters outside of their control. Many come from single parent and low income homes. Their parents struggle on a daily basis with providing basic necessities. Their neighborhood is infested with crime and gang activity. Role models are not always present. I would love to supply my classroom with books that will help my students understand and learn the social skills needed to be productive and caring citizens, now and in the future.
My Project
I am hoping these strong texts will assist in the development of my students' social skills. Reading and sharing stories about others in similar situations will help my students make responsible and positive choices about personal and social behavior.
My students need to gain and apply the skills and attitudes that are necessary to both manage and understand emotions.
They need to have empathy for others. They need to have positive relationships in both their school and their community. This selection of books will help my students understand and grow both socially and emotionally.
Reading contributes to stress reduction; it contributes to focus, concentration, thinking skills and tranquility.
