Help me give my students flexible seating options. In my class I have seen that when my students are given a choice of seating they are more focused and more apt to sit through an activity successfully!
I teach a classroom of 8 students at the Kindergarten and First grade level. This is a subseparate classroom of children with social emotional needs. Each student brings a charismatic and positive aspect to our class. Our classroom makes up a welcoming and inclusive classroom family.
As each student is so unique, they all have different and specific needs as well.
We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.
My Project
Sensory integration will help regulate my student's absorbent behaviors by providing deep pressure, pressure release, and calming their senses before escalation.
Flexible seating helps to give my students an option of where to sit and what space to sit in.
I have seen a huge success when they are given the choice of where they are going to sit during an activity or lesson. This also helps with their coping skills as they will feel more relaxed when they are in control of their area and choosing where they can comfortably sit.
This is a huge component with the social emotional learning in my classroom.
