This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from low income families as my school is 100% free and reduced lunch. They are bubbly and very inquisitive. Most of my students are being raised by single parents or guardians. My young ladies and gentlemen have very few opportunities to experience life outside of their immediate community.
As an urban educator I believe that all children deserve the best educational opportunities and my students are no exception.
My students love learning new things and they take advantage of whatever experience is placed before them. I would like to facilitate an clean and healthy environment with endless opportunities for creativity and expression. It would be amazing to have the cleaning materials necessary to provide a clean and healthy environment for my students.
My Project
Students will enjoy completing independent or partner work with varied seating options. I have learned over the years that children love to sit down or lay on the floor while completing assignments. I need more options in my classroom. An additional carpet, comfy floor chairs, and hard surfaces to write on will increase my student's motivation to get things done.
All students do not like sitting rigidly at desks in chairs.
Imagine if that is the only option to get things done. As an adult, that makes me uncomfortable. Children need more options and less boundaries when it comes to multiple ways to accomplish tasks.
