My students are 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in the inner city. They are in my program and classroom because they've been removed from their boundary schools due to severe behavior issues. In my program and room, they are given positive behavior supports and interventions, along with the opportunity to see academic success, which for some is something with which they've never had experience. Many are functioning below their academic grade level, so making learning fun and engaging is important. My students also need the chance to learn coping skills, which is something we work on throughout their time in the program.
Alternate comfortable seating is important for students! Floor cushions and wedge seats/cushions for the floor will give students the opportunity to move about the room to do their reading, classwork, and mindfulness/coping skills practice. My students often need to sit somewhere different. Sometimes they learn/work better when they are out of a hard, stiff chair. Having their own spot to sit and feel comfy cozy can make learning/working/reading/coping more enjoyable, meaningful, and productive for many students.
My students need comfortable seating choices to meet their individual learning and coping needs.
The floor isn't comfy, we need SUPER SEATING to make our floor seating more enjoyable and helpful!
