Why sit at a desk, when you can be learning all over the room? I believe that movement, peer interaction, and hands-on activities are essential for student success and I make sure to incorporate them every day. I teach at a public, Title I school in a wonderful neighborhood school in the Midwest. My students love to learn through doing and are always eager to try something new!

My students love STEM, social studies, and reading nonfiction books. Recently we've been studying the Monarch butterfly's life cycle and migration.
My Project
Ready, set, learn! I like to take a hands-on approach to learning and I believe collaboration amongst students is very important. I have many active learners who simply flourish when given the opportunity to move and collaborate. This is why I want to make a variety of alternative seating options available for my students.
No one enjoys being stuck at a desk all day- active students are active learners!
I would like to limit the number of regular desks in my classroom and add collaborative tables for them to sit at. I am requesting an adjustable height round table and chairs.
The transformation of my classroom's seating options is important to give my students more opportunities for collaborative learning and mobility. The chairs I currently have in my classroom are a combination of five different varieties and range in age from 20 to 30 years old. They are coming apart and they are don't all fit well at the desks. Our current desks and tables are not adjustable and do not grow with the children throughout the year. These new tables are easily adjustable and I will be able to raise the height of them as my students grow.
To completely transform my classroom, I am going to have to take this massive undertaking and break it up into smaller projects. My current and future students and I are unbelievably grateful for your help in transforming our classroom into an active and collaborative learning environment.
