My students need a class subscription to SuperScience magazine to help build literacy skills through non-fiction text and make real world science connections!

"Are we doing an experiment today?" These are the words I hear everyday as my students arrive for Science. My classroom is home to a diverse group of fifth graders who love to investigate the natural world through experiments, building models and collaboration. Their learning comes alive with Science based investigations, print and digital resources. Their learning grows when they are able to be explore and practice like real scientists!
As young scientists, hands-on learning builds connections from the classroom to the real world!
Their learning grows when they are able to be explore and practice like real scientists! My students come from various backgrounds, socioeconomic levels, learning abilities and personalities. All of those things help to create a group of students who have much to offer and learn from each other on a daily basis. Their differences help shape our class dynamic from discussions, collaborations and hands-on investigations.
My 5th graders come in with varying levels of enthusiasm and understanding about Science. I would like to level the playing field by creating access to engaging, student friendly content in the form of SuperScience magazine. Reading in the content areas can be hard for many students but making real world connections opens up their minds and enthusiasm to learn more about the world around them.
SuperScience Magazine will provide engaging content that bridges the gap between grade level standards and real world Science.
The eye-catching photographs, accessible text, online and print, and valuable content will help my students connect their understanding of our Science standards and what is happening right outside their door. It will also provide a context for the concepts we learn throughout the year. This resource will help students blend non-fiction strategies and skills with an exciting magazine.
The foundation of scientific knowledge is in asking questions and using those to launch investigations about the natural world. SuperScience will help to engage all types of learners to read, research and explore like a scientist!
