My students come to school with a lot on their minds. They come in hungry, tired and insecure about what the day will bring. School is a safe place for them.
School is where they learn social skills, learn right from wrong and learn that there are people out there who care for them.
All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some of our students come to school at 7 am and stay until 6 pm. Even with all this baggage my students are the most caring, most loving and most helpful kids I know.
Reading has power and power is ability. My students all have the ability to learn. They learn in so many different ways. Some learn by doing, some learn by listening, and some learn by reading. The Super Science magazines help in all kinds of learning. Students love to read about current events in the science. They love reading about things they have done (ski, swim, take medicine, forest hikes, collect rocks). They love to read about future cars, bikes, animals they have never seen before, medicines that may cure cancer or the flu. Stories about who and what they may become in their own future. Scholastic Science covers all those areas and more! Reading is powerful!
