Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My wonderful class is just beginning their journey into education and are so excited to learn. My class has 30 students and is a full day Kindergarten in a year-round school. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch, and several receive food to take home on weekends. The neighborhood around our school is mainly comprised of hard-working immigrant families new to the United States. Many of my students will learn English at school and become their family's interpreter. Having such a large class is rewarding as well as challenging! My students bring me so much joy every day and I hope to instill a lifetime love of learning to each and every one of them!
My Project
Our class is very lucky to have an engaging science curriculum but our science center is sadly lacking. We need new center activities to encourage students to think about the world around them and inside them.
I have chosen hands-on materials such as magnetic builders, STEM activities and binoculars to engage and excite students to explore science.
Little hands need hands-on engagement and tactile involvement in the curriculum being taught. By donating to this project you will be putting science tools into my students' hands and allowing them to experience first hand important ideas such as cause and effect, magnets, and components of earth science. Materials like the microscopes and gears building beginner set will help my students build greater levels of understanding through personal experiences and experiments. Through this project and your help I hope to help young people begin to think critically and creatively.
