My students come to school each day eager to learn. We live in a county that is plagued with poverty. The past two years our county was hit with Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Florence which has only increased our financial difficulties. Many students have not only lost their home once but twice. We would like to expand our classroom library. Reading expands our children’s minds and can give them hope for the future. Reading can also be an escape for some of our students. In this difficult time we would like to offer our children the chance to dream and expand their horizons.
My Project
Reading is a daily activity within the classroom. The Native American Stories and the Spanish Heritage books would allow students to improve their reading and comprehension skills, while learning about different cultures. The set of books on Character Education and Emotions will help students develop better character and allow them to learn how to deal with emotions they may be feeling.
Hopefully these books will inspire students to want to read and develop a love for reading to bring out the Super Reader they have inside.
These books will also allow us to teach the difference between fiction and non-fiction. They will also allow us to teach student how to go back in a text and find facts about a topic.
