My students need an oval rug so they can fully participate in Restorative Circles which will help them to resolve conflicts, build a sense of community and practice communicating effectively with others.
My class of extremely diverse students at a Title 1 School, has made incredible personal growth by participating in daily Restorative Circles. My 24 students speak eight languages and many have experienced significant difficulties and/or trauma in their lives.
I have been fortunate to become an agent of change in their lives.
With specialized training and daily practice, I am empowering my students to have a voice that speaks their personal truth. This, in turn, is helping them to become better equipped to deal with problems and communicate with others even in difficult situations.
My Project
My class of extremely diverse “super hero” students at a Title 1 school, has made incredible personal growth by participating in daily Restorative Circles. Circle time is a crucial part of the school day when the children come together on the carpet to learn how to resolve problems and communicate effectively. Super heroes solve problems and these kids are learning how they can be super heroes in their own community. The children in our room love circle time, only we are missing one major component--A rug that will accommodate all of our bodies! We have been using a small carpet that is not large enough to fit all of the students. The students have a hard time staying engaged when they feel uncomfortable sitting on the small, old, dirty rectangular rug that I found in the hallway next to my classroom.
I will need a carpet large enough to fit at least 24 students and 1 adult.
Your help with ensure that my students have a more enjoyable experience during circle time each day. You will make it possible for all of them to sit comfortably on the carpet, which will help them stay engaged and focused on the activity at hand. With your support, our dreams of sitting together with no one feeling left out will become a reality.
