Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from South Detroit in a wonderful community called Mexican Town. The diversity of the school with the students and staff make the school feel special. I am looking for ways to support my students in Reading especially with the 3rd Grade Law that will affect their promotion to the next grade.
My students have grown immensely based on their reading diagnostic from September up until now.
I want to continue to engage them in learning in more creative ways.
My Project
Students will become more engaged and excited about close reading in the shoes of a super hero. Close reading has been the main focus throughout the curriculum. Students have improved tremendously but I am noticing some are losing interest with the same routines or find close reading to be boring. If I create a scenario where they need to close read a complex text and answer comprehension questions in order to complete a super hero quest, I feel this will be an experience that they will never forget, will become more engaged, and see that school can be a fun experience.
