My class is made up of 17 wonderful students who love school and are very excited to learn. They can't wait to get to school, and their smiles are contagious. They are the reason that I love teaching 1st grade.
Our school is located in a small town in southwest Virginia.
There are 460 students in our school, and about 60% receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of our students are transient and move in and out of schools throughout the year. For many years, our school was a community school with 2nd and 3rd generation students. However, during the last 5 years, our population has changed and so have the needs of our students.
I love to include literacy and books in all of my teaching. By having copies of these eight different science books in my classroom, I can do a better job teaching the science curriculum. I can also share these books with the other 1st grade classes so even more students will benefit.
Books bring the content to life and the students can go back and enjoy the books on their own.
My students will be mesmerized when they see the photos of snakes, dolphins and cheetahs. I don't think they will want to put these books down.
Many of my students don't get the opportunity to take trips and experience things for themselves. These books will allow me to show them so much about what I am teaching them.
