My students are creative and charismatic learners. They enjoy hands-on activities and the ability to move around the room as needed. Our class functions as a team and family. My students learn best when they can work together, receive appropriate supports, and relate directly to the content.
It is my goal to create a positive and engaging experience with the curriculum we have available by supplementing scaffolded and culturally responsive materials from Teachers Pay Teachers.
We are a Title I school with a high population of students who are ESOL. We are one of the most diverse schools within our school district, and we receive many students who are refugees or who have an interrupted formal education. It is vital that these, and all other students, have hands-on cooperative learning experiences to build connections between themselves and the content.
The best part of my job is knowing that my students feel safe and respected. I know that many students are not comfortable in their homes or neighborhoods, and they depend on us for support, encouragement, and safety. Our students are leaders who will learn to work together, solve problems, and reach their goals.
My Project
In our school, we have a diverse population of learners. Many of our students have more proficiency in their first language and are intimidated by textbooks. Using outdated textbooks and making the content relatable for all students is a daunting task. While working with colleagues at other schools, I have found a differentiated and adaptable year-long social studies curriculum.

When we used a preview of this curriculum, students asked when we would do Social Studies again! Our students are excited about learning history and applying their knowledge in classroom conversations.
