I teach 18 kindergarten age students who love school! Most of my students come from low to middle-income homes, and with cuts to funding, there is not money in our budgets for anything outside of basic supplies. I strive to give them the loving supportive environment that they deserve while they are in my care so they can have the best chance at growing, learning, loving, and just being a kid with no worries!
Kindergarten is such an important developmental period in children's lives, and developmentally appropriate practices of movement, play, and choice are often being swept under the rug with the increasing academic demands being placed on our students.
However, research actually supports that using these practices increases student learning, growth, and achievement! Therefore, it is important to me to give my ALL to my kinders' growing minds, no matter where they come from or how different they are; a place where they have the best chance at flourishing and developing into great learners and people!
My Project
Our students are able to participate in one hour of literacy stations everyday and two days a week for math. During these stations the children are working on specific skills that they need.
The resources I am requesting will be shared with all of the kindergarten classrooms at my school.
The file folder games cover both math and literacy skills and will allow us to set up individual activities for students. These games are self correcting so students can work independently. The wide variety of skills that are covered in these will help us to meet the needs of our students. There is something for everyone! In addition to those, our students need magnetic boards that cover a variety of phonemic awareness skills.
