This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a lively group of fourth graders. Academically, my students are very diverse; I have students who are beginning readers through advanced reading levels. My students benefit immensely from multiple modes of representation of the content I teach.
Many of my students are visual and hands-on learners, and learn best when they can see the content, and not just hear or read about it.
I try to incorporate as much science and social studies into the curriculum as I can, and oftentimes, a visual representation, such as pictures, slideshows, and videos are much more effective for teaching students about science or history.
My Project
This collection of books will make a huge impact in my students' motivation to read. Having new books in the classroom that are interesting and at the appropriate reading level can make a world of difference!
My students love to read books about super heroes and graphic novels.
Introducing reluctant readers to graphic novels is oftentimes a good way to get students interested in reading. Students at different reading levels also find graphic novels to be more accessible.
Developing life-long readers is one of my goals as a teacher, and having new and captivating books for my students to read will help me accomplish that goal!
