My Students

I am a first-grade teacher at a diverse school just outside of Washington, D.C. Our school is culturally and linguistically diverse; students represent more than forty-one countries and speak more than twenty different languages at home. More than seventy-four percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My curious first graders are full of enthusiasm for learning!

They come to school eager to learn with smiles on their faces. They are energetic learners who enjoy hands-on, inquiry-based lessons differentiated to meet their individual needs.

My Project

My classroom is full of diverse students from many different cultures and backgrounds. It is important that my students have access to books that engage and inspire them.

My students love to read treasured fiction stories, nonfiction books that teach them about their world, and most importantly: books that reflect who they are and what they are interested in.

It is important to me that the books in my classroom foster mindfulness, teach acceptance and make my students feel important, seen and heard. I want my students to love reading, and they need access to a wide range of diverse books to inspire them. Help me build our classroom library with books to meet these goals!
