I am in my 5th year of teaching at the school I grew up in. We are a rural county who has faced many hardships over the past couple of decades and families often struggle to make it in the area. It is a beautiful area to live in, surrounded by nature and art. We are lucky to have a supportive community that loves children!
Our school is associated with A+ Schools of North Carolina.
We are focused on the Arts. We are a K-5 school with approximately 500 students.
I have a variety of students who are quirky, smart, funny, and well-rounded. In my classroom, students have the option of flexible seating such as scoop seats, a standing table, and floor table. We are full of active bodies in which I encourage students to find a spot where they learn best.
My Project
Our students are in desperate need of something to explore besides the swings and slide. We have a large sandbox which students could enjoy thoroughly with the heavy-duty sand tools set. Wrist ribbons are fantastic for kids who love to twirl and dance. Others could enjoy games with the playground ball set, comet balls, and swivel-handle jump ropes.
These items will promote hand-eye coordination, social skills, and fine motor development.
All of these are imperative for student growth. They are learning in a whole new way. This project would enhance that learning to a new level.
Students look forward to outside play every day. With more options, it will be even more enjoyable!
