Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom consists of 18 amazing third-grade students. They are an eager-to-learn bunch with a vivid imagination and lots of energy!
My class is a blend of 4 nationalities, English language learners, students with special needs, as well as a wide range of different learning levels.
I teach all students in a general education classroom setting. My students learn best when they have a vast variety of literature that appeals to them.
Our school is considered high poverty; we are always in need of resources and supplies to continue supporting and enriching our low socio-economic and very diverse population of students.
My Project
Engaging students in reading is not an easy task in this digital age. It is all the more difficult for students who don't have books at home.
For the many of my students, school is the only place they see any books.
I have a good selection of books in my library however, each year there are new lists of sunshine state books. Students are encouraged to read these books, they are motivational books. Students the earn rewards and field trip at the end of the year if they've read all books from this list.
I am requesting a set of Sunshine State Young Reader awards books; these books are of high interest, challenging and recommended for more fluent readers. We will use these books for a variety of different activities including independent reading, book clubs, and read alouds. I want to instill a love for reading, which will hopefully help turn my students into lifelong readers.
