My students need books in their classroom library to keep them reading! Since this is my first year in elementary, I need to stock up my classroom library, and they LOVE the Sunshine State Books!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
My students are enthusiastic learners, who need to be challenged and inspired by good books.
They are compassionate and creative. Persistent and curious. I look each day for new ways to provide rigor in the classroom, and inspire them to be the best version of themselves.
My Project
Reading is the key to success in school. It is known that the more students read, the more they are exposed to different and higher-level vocabulary. Independent reading helps to build their reading stamina, use their imagination, and build on many other skills that they will use in the classroom. They can use these skills in ELA, social studies, science, and even math. However, as teachers, we find that some of our students just aren't reading enough outside of school.
If you don't like reading, you just haven't found the right book for you.
I firmly believe that. My goal is for all of my students to leave my room loving to read, and knowing what it is they like to read. This comes with trying many, many different books to figure that out. I'd love to provide my students with the resources necessary to go through that process and come out the other side loving to read.
My goal is to start stocking my classroom bookshelves with the Sunshine State Books from the 2017-2018 and the 2018-2019 year. This will give the students plenty of options to start or continue their relationship with reading. Students will be able to check these books out of the classroom to read at home, or use them in class when they have finished an assignment early and have some free time.
