Mrs. Rickmon from Apopka FL is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Sunshine State Books and Smiles

My students need these 7 novel sets to enrich their reading experience by getting them exposure to multiple genres.

My Students

Each year, the state of Florida releases a list of books for the students to read. They vary in genres and levels to give the students exposure to different kinds of books.

I am one of the luckiest teachers because my class is truly amazing!

They are sweet, kind, and go out of their way to help out one another. My students attend a multicultural school in an urban district of central Florida. Seventy percent of the students receive free and reduced lunches.

My Project

Because of limited sources, the school was not able to purchase all of the Sunshine State books. By having multiple copies in the classroom, more students will be able to read and enjoy them. The students will be able to read the novels with their peers because of the multiple copies. In third grade, the students have an idea as to what genres they prefer. Having the Sunshine State books available will give them opportunities to explore other types of books they would not normally read.

My students have huge hearts and are eager to learn.

I want to do everything within my power to help them succeed. I believe reading leads to success, so providing my students with multiple genres and levels of text will help prepare them to succeed. My students deserve the best, and this project helps give them a chance to enrich their reading.
