Our rural Louisiana school is home to a diverse population of students which includes an English language learner program in our district. Additionally, most of our student population comes from a low socioeconomic background. This oftentimes makes it difficult for students to learn beyond their neighborhood and their school. Students live in rural area with little to no transportation.
Many students do not have access to basic school supplies at home.
Students love to read, write and color.
My Project
Our kindergarten students are ready for the summer months, but living in a rural area and no public transportation available, students will spend most of their days glued to a screen. (Whether it is a television, computer or phone.) We need to reduce the summer slide and allow students to retain what they have learned, by giving them access to supplies they don't have at home.
Simple things like crayons, pencils, or paper will allow students to enforce skills learned throughout the year.
The craft kits will engage their brain in critical thinking and problem-solving.
