This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My role as a school social worker can be both rewarding and challenging at times. My school is located in a large urban city with a very diverse population. Over 95% of the student body live below the poverty level and most of their families receive some sort of public assistance
Most of our families have a difficult time purchasing basic personal items, household items and toiletries for their children.
The student body consists of young people in grades 8 through 12. Their ages range from age 13 to age 19 years.
Being neat and tidy, unsoiled, and wearing clean clothing enhance self-esteem and help my students make it through the day.
My Project
Being the female social worker in our building I spend a great deal of time during the day fulfilling the personal needs of my middle and high school female students.
The personal female items I've received from past donations have been depleted to almost zero at this time.
Most of their families have a difficult time purchasing and keeping these items in supply. We still have nine more weeks this school year and summer break is right around the corner. I would like to continue supplying my students with these items until the end of the school year and especially over summer break.
