Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege of working at such a diverse school. My students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. We are a school located in the South Bronx with many challenges. Despite the community, our students are eager to explore and learn.
Our school is also considered a transitional school due to all the surrounding shelters.
I love working with this community. My students are faced with lots of challenges but somehow they make it to school each day with a huge smile. Seeing them being so resilient makes me want to work harder to provide them with all I can. My students are resilient, curious and creative. They love to read, create art, and use their imagination daily. Our classroom is a big ball of fun, where they come to create, explore and invent through new experiences.
As their teacher, it is my job to support them in all walks of life. When I enter into the classroom I become their friend, nurse counselor, mom, and so many other things depending on their arrival. I take pride in providing myself to my little ones and their families.
My Project
I am wearing my heart on my sleeve and asking for help again with buying my children's summer books.
Two months of summer vacation is a blessing as well as a curse.
During this period of time, children tend to play games, watch tv, stay up all night, and just play all summer. No reading, no math or no writing being done at home, so children tend to forget what they have learned all school year. I believe summer vacation is for enjoying time with family and friends however; if the children would get these summer books hopefully this will encourage parents to work with their babies to get them ready for Kindergarten. These books will prepare them for higher-order thinking. Thank You once again.
