I need professional development books, like A Close Look at Close Reading and Disrupting Thinking: Why How We Read Matters, to improve my teaching craft and engage all of my learners.
I work in a Title 1 school with some of the most special and diverse students in my area. My students come from various backgrounds, but one thing they have in common is they want learning to be fun. I want learning to be fun. More importantly, I want learning to be authentic. I want my students to enjoy learning and realize each lesson is relatable to their every day lives.
In order to provide instruction that is engaging, authentic, and beneficial for all my learners, I must continue to work on my teaching craft and seek out professional development.
My Project
The district I work for has been making some monumental shifts lately and although they provide quality professional development to educate me on these shifts, nothing can beat doing my own research over the summer when I have the time to digest and plan for the school year ahead.
The books I am asking for today will benefit my students in reading, writing, and teambuilding.
These books offer current research on how students read and write, as well as offer a multitude of ready to use strategies and templates to use in the classroom. Rigorous learning takes a toll on the brain, so the Kagan Silly Sports and Goofy Games book will help give my students short brain breaks to recharge and bond with each other.
