My students need basic supplies for creating an interactive notebook for summer school remedial math. They will need a notebook, glue sticks, scissor, colored pencils, and highlighters. I will also make them “foldable” notes printed on colored paper so that they have a resource to study and utilize for the course. I will allow them to write on their desks with dry erase markers. We we will create anchor charts to post around the room with helpful notes.
This summer I will be teaching remedial math to 7th graders who were unsuccessful during the year. In order to make math engaging, we will need some basic supplies for students to create an interactive notebook. These students come from low income families and will need supplies for their success.
My students are reluctant students.
They don't believe they have the ability to be successful. I need to change that by making math applicable to their lives. I need to engage them in their learning and give them the opportunity to grow. These students were unsuccessful in their general math class throughout the year and will need a remedial course this summer. Many of these students are at risk of not graduating and come from low income families. These students will greatly benefit from creating an interactive notebook if our class has the supplies they need.
My Project
For the summer school remedial math program, I will have to find a way to reach students that were unsuccessful during the school year. By creating an interactive notebook students will gain a better understanding of the material by relating it to their lives and taking ownership in their work. My students love to solve problems using dry erase markers on their desks. I have requested markers for students to use on their desk to keep them engaged in problem solving. I have also requested a set of markers and chart paper so that together, my students and I can create posters with tips, and methods for solving problems.
The students who will benefit from this project need to restore their confidence in themselves.
They are students who don't think they are capable of succeeding in math. With these supplies, I will be able to help them connect math to their lives and show them that they are capable of success in math.
