My Students

Kind, compassionate, and hard-working are the first words that come to mind when I describe the students at my school! Our school's moto is "Kindness is Contagious" and our students demonstrate kindness on a daily basis. They help each other, include each other, and work with their teachers to kindly solve problems. Our students strive to do their best every day because they want to learn. They want to learn and want to learn from reading! We wish for this learning and reading to continue over the summer however resources as well transportation to summer programming can be an issue.

The students, their families, and the staff generously give all year long!

We want to be able to give back. We want to give them the books they need and want to keep learning all summer long! We wish for books to take them to magical places!

My Project

"Summer Meet Up & Read Up" will give students the opportunity to self select books each week. Each Tuesday afternoon, a group of teachers will visit the students' mobile home community and set up a book exchange. Students will be able to read with friends and teachers, talk about the books they read, and swap the books they have already read for new books. Bringing books to students and having the opportunity to talk about what they read will encourage them to continue reading over the summer. Reading throughout the summer will help students maintain reading levels, avoid the dreaded "summer slide", and foster a love for reading and learning!
