This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is filled with 21 eager students who love working together to complete various tasks. We are one big happy family who is responsible for each other's learning and care.
Our school is home to a large population of English language learner students (92%) and is a Title I school.
My students face many challenges while living in a new country and attempting to learn a new language. My goal is to make their transition as smooth as possible in hopes of preparing them for great achievement.
My Project
I am requesting funding for a 5-day summer Professional Development workshop called Pathfinders Summer Institute in Bloomington, Indiana. At the Pathfinders Summer Institute, I will be able to learn to code, create Makerspace activities, and collaborate with experts and educators from around the world. Coding, programming, and Makerspace lab integrate creativity, collaboration, team building, math, and computing education to enable equitable access to and success in both subjects for all students in grades K-12. I will teach the components learned during the summer when the next school year begins.
By attending Pathfinders Summer Institute, I will be able to bring computer science and programming, and Makerspace activities into my middle school for grades 6-8.
This opportunity would make a difference in the lives of many students by allowing them to critically explore how technology is changing our lives and being used in every part of them. Special thanks to Infosys Foundation USA for coordinating this event.
